JOB DESCRIPTION: Data Center Management
LOCATION: Wilmington, DE (Primary)

This position is responsible for Data Center management, its facility and network infrastructure in IPR’s Wilmington, DE Data Center. IPR is a Data Center and Data Management Service Provider with various dispersed data centers . The Wilmington Data Center Site Leader will be responsible for data center related service delivery, site security, technical support and quality assurance. The position involves and requires service delivery management and hands-on expertise. The position is responsible for the design, documentation, deployment and maintenance of existing and future services and support strategies, relationships, policies and procedures. This position reports directly to the Facility Infrastructure and Technical Support manager. This individual will work closely with the team to achieve the group’s organizational and strategic goals.

Critical to this position is the ability of the candidate to demonstrate leadership in his/her management style. This leadership must also be evident in the tactical implementation of necessary data center facility and network infrastructure processes and procedures to insure complete customer satisfaction with IPR's service delivery model.  The selected candidate will display a consultative management presence to the company’s clients and prospects.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage the Wilmington Data Center, its facility and network infrastructure technical support.
  • Plan, develop and implement strategy for data center infrastructure operations to meet agreed organizational performance plans within agreed budgets and timescales.
  • Maintain Data Center facility documentation for assets, security, policies and procedures. 
  • Monitor, measure, and report on Data Center Infrastructure, network infrastructure, computing and infrastructure issues, opportunities and development plans, and achievements within agreed formats and timescales.
  • Manage and develop direct reporting staff.
  • Collaborate with other IPR Data Center Managers to develop IPR Best Practices.
  • Manage and control departmental expenditure within agreed budgets.
  • Maintain awareness and knowledge of contemporary information technology.
  • Contribute to the evaluation and development of IPR’s overall IT strategy and performance with the team.
  • Ensure activities meet with and integrate with organizational requirements for quality management, health and safety, legal stipulations, environmental policies and general duty of care.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A proven track record of managing data centers, their facility and network infrastructure resources, both technical and human, to meet the needs of the business. This experience must be in an environment that is one or more complex data centers offering multiple services to a varied and dispersed clientele.
  • Demonstrated leadership, but is expected to be a team player.
  • A basic understanding of the deployed technology.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in of managing data center facilities and related network infrastructure.

Specific Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong balance of operational, business, and technical aptitude and comprehension.
  • Proven ability to manage a technical team.

  • Detailed organization and documentation skills

  • Demonstrated technical skills in some of the following: Microsoft Enterprise Architecture, Exchange, SQL, Networking architecture, routing, and security, Linux Operating Systems, Backup and Storage Technologies, Server Hardware Specification and Debugging.
  • Strong systems and/or network background.
  • Experience dealing with telecommunications carriers.
  • Power and cooling Infrastructure experience.
  • Ability to multi-task and manage changing priorities to meet demands of internal and external customers.
  • Experience in working in a substantial and complex data center environment.
  • Ability to contribute to an atmosphere of teamwork through collaborative behavior and open communications.
  • Experience of interfacing at all levels from senior management to junior staff.
  • Experience of working with customers and executives at a senior level.
  • Excellent analytical, communication (Verbal and writing) skills; process-oriented.
  • Ability to create, manage and execute project plans.
  • Ability to perform risk assessments.

  • Candidates must have own transportation and valid driver’s license. Travel to IPR offices in Reading and Conshohocken will be required on occasion.

 

Senior VMware Infrastructure Engineer

JOB DESCRIPTION: Virtualization – VMware
LOCATION: Conshohocken, PA (suburban Philadelphia), Reading, PA, Wilmington, DE

As VMware Infrastructure Engineer, you will be responsible for supporting IPR Private Cloud operations by designing, implementing, and maintaining production systems for our clients, and providing top level system support for data center issues. Project Manage client deployments and establish account documentation in support of Service Levels. An in-depth knowledge of virtualization is required. Good knowledge of networking, security, data center operations, and hardware such as servers, switches, firewalls and SAN’s is a huge plus.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for the design, implementation, and management of virtual infrastructure
  • Serve as Project Manager and technical account liaison for enterprise deployments
  • Maintain high level systems and network documentation
  • Provide deployment and virtual environment support
  • Proactively monitor all company production systems and assist with reporting on operational metrics
  • Ensure that the company information security policies are enforcedProvide rotational on-call support (24/7) as part of after house service team pool

REQUIRED

  • Current, enterprise-class experience designing and implementing highly available infrastructure solutions using VMware vSphere 4 (ESX, Virtual Center/vCenter, VMotion, HA, DRS, Converter)
  • Experience designing and implementing shared storage (fibre channel) solutions in order to utilize VMware’s VMotion, HA, and DRS
  • Working knowledge of networking protocols and components including TCP/IP, DNS, NFS
  • Experience with automated system builds and configuration management tools
  • Experience working with enterprise SAN’s (EMC, NetApp or others)
  • Familiarity with routing, switching, and bridging in LAN, WAN, VPN environments, access methods, and network topologies is essential, as is basic knowledge of cryptography as it relates to computer and network Security;
  • Experience working on a matrix team consisting of a variety of Infrastructure Engineering groups, as well as Development groups and Client Relationship groups
  • Willingness and capability of quickly learning new technologies required for accomplishing project goals
  • Willingness and ability to produce high quality operational documentation, including Visio diagrams, high-level descriptions of the environment, as well as detailed instructions outlining the steps required to repeat the build-out and configuration of the infrastructure
  • Strong customer service skills with high level of professionalism, and ability to work with complex situations
  • VMware Certified Professional (ideally in VCP4)

DESIRED

  • Infrastructure/System Engineering experience with systems running Linux (Red Hat Enterprise Linux) and Microsoft platforms (Windows Server 2003 & 2008)
  • Experience with HP c Class BladeSystem and HP Insight Control
  • Experience with Cisco routers & switches including Nexus 1000 series
  • Experience working in data center environments with related equipment (servers, PDU’s, Racks, cabling, etc.)
  • Software based replication with any of the following tools: vReplicator, vRranger, Platespin, DoubleTake
  • Experience working in a hosted environment or service provider environment
